Galatians 1:6-9 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. Jesus Christ is the subject of the gospel, but he isn't the gospel. The gospel is what he did, and what that produced. What he did was die for our sins, and then "God raised him from the dead, for our justification" (Romans 4:25: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Ephesians 1:20). This singular act of faith produced the grace by which anyone, under any circumstances, at any point in their lives can be saved by simply believing this truth (Romans 3:22; 10:9). This is what Paul referred to as "the preaching of the cross" i.e., "Jesus Christ, and him crucified," which he said was, "to them that perish foolishness, but unto us which are saved the power of God" (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 2:2). |
